Backstory
In the heart of the Icetop Mountains, Took, an eccentric, cackling Kobold, faced a dire situation. His family, once respected among their clan, now stood on the precipice of disgrace due to Took’s kleptomania. Caught stealing the wrong item from the wrong kobold, a quite fine and shiny dagger without a scratch. Unbeknownst to him, it was cursed. Later that night a Spectral hand manifested from the blade, the previously shiny metallic surface turning matte and dull. Took found himself indebted to Groggar Stalwart, a ruthless Kobold enforcer. Groggar demanded servitude from Took’s family as repayment for the not only stolen, but “ruined” dagger. The stash of other stolen items Groggar found in Took’s possession was the perfect blackmail material against the family. Their reputation in the clan would be in ruin, should the rumor of “their” thieving ways be brought to light. Desperate to redeem his family, Took ventured into the surface world. A man presenting himself as Vesper Altair. A man of very friendly and casual demeanour saw, potential in the little guy. He would teach him the ways of the trade. Things like, look presentable, have a stand to sell from and suppliers give you stuff to sell! Great advice, really. Whenever Vesper Altair had a personal favour to ask, Took gladly help him with small things like, getting an item he’d forgotten in someone’s pocket, put things back into someone’s pocket or steal from the guy who was mean to him. You know, totally reasonable things. Though, the town would later turn on Took for his antics and he had to move on. Took’s meager profits failed to alleviate his family’s predicament, and Groggar’s demands loomed. The Mage Hand, silent as the shadows, chuckled, a spectral reminder of the unpredictable journey ahead.
