Recap from previous Session

(Read this with a serious, almost somber tone, allowing for pauses to let the moments land)

“Welcome back to Eberron. When last we gathered, you embarked on the final, perilous leg of your journey to the heart of the Mournland. You navigated the haunted, Glassed Frontlines, passing through a silent graveyard of Warforged who had come to the Mournland seeking purpose or an end. You braved the bizarre ‘Dance of the Living Spells,’ and in a melted Cannith bunker, you found the last, panicked message of a doomed artificer, warning of a failed protocol and a dragon that was ‘becoming…’ something more.

At long last, you arrived at the dead city of Making. On its desolate surface, you saw the soldiers of the Lord of Blades holding court, and found the body of the Black Talon, Frank, his final note guiding you away from the zealot-held tower and towards the Assembly Yard. There, you solved the intricate schematic puzzle left by Scouts, unlocking a secret maintenance vent that led you deep into the subterranean veins of the facility.

Down in the darkness, you allied with the last, desperate members of the Black Talons, Rock and Scouts, and together you overcame the facility’s ‘Triple-Fail-Safe Protocol.’ You navigated treacherous workshops, solved the Grand Conduit’s power puzzle—learning the names ‘Project Aegis’ and ‘Project Radiance’—and fought a desperate battle against chaotic Slaadi at a chasm’s edge. Your combined efforts opened the final Adamantine Door.

After a brief, imperfect rest, you proceeded into the Core Lab itself. There, you faced your ultimate challenge: the mechanical dragon, Aegis. In a spectacular, gruelling battle, you weathered its devastating attacks, used the lab’s own systems against it, and fought alongside the very echoes of creation and chaos. You pushed the guardian beyond its limits, survived its overload state, and in a final, heroic push, you felled the beast. Victory was yours. The third Heart of Radiance shard, pulsing with pure light, was finally in your possession.

And then, in the quiet moment of your triumph, as you stood exhausted and battered, a sickly golden light flared from the ring Took carried. Lira, Theron, and a dark Templar appeared in your midst. The betrayal was absolute. With a Wall of Force, Lira split your company in two. The fight was short, brutal, and hopeless. The Templar struck down Elrath, and Theron retrieved the shard you had fought so hard for. Faced with an unwinnable battle, you were defeated.

You have done a great service for the true power within the Flame. Bel Shalor will remember you. Rest now.,’ Lira said, before she and her allies vanished, taking with them the third shard of the Heart of Radiance.

We ended as Took, in a final act of rage and grief, threw the cursed ring into the darkness. You are left exhausted, betrayed, and alone in the silent, tomb-like heart of Making, with everything you worked for now lost to the enemy.”

(Transition back to the players)

“Let’s return to that moment. The golden light has faded. The silence of the dead facility is broken only by your ragged breathing and the faint, sorrowful hum of the ruined machinery. What do you do?”

Storyline / Scenes

  1. Roleplay the aftermath
    • Prompting the Players: Give them space to react to each other, but if they are stunned into silence, you can use prompts to get them started:
      • To Took: “Took, you just threw away the ring, the “gift” that Lira gave you back in Flamekeep. As it clatters away into the darkness, what is the immediate feeling that washes over you? Relief? Guilt? Emptiness?”
      • To Elrath: “Elrath, you just had a massive roller coaster of emotions. One moment you deal the final blow to this massive metal monstrosity, and the next moment you are laying on death’s doorstep. What is going on inside of you right now?”
  2. Revisit the pieces of lore from before the final chamber
    • “The potential is limitless! We are on the verge of creating life with the cosmic essence of Siberys itself!”
    • “The power draw from ‘Project Radiance’ is exceeding all projections. The containment field for ‘Aegis’ is being repurposed to handle the overload, but it was never designed for raw celestial energy of this magnitude. It’s a stopgap, not a solution.”
    • “It’s overloading! The Aegis protocol is failing! The core isn’t containing the energy, it’s… it’s absorbing it! Tell Baron Merrix the dragon is… it’s becoming… (a sound of shattering crystal, a roar of pure energy, and static)…”
  3. Facility Lock-down!

“The steady, low hum of the facility’s life support system falters and dies, plunging you into an even deeper silence. Then, a synthesised, pre-recorded female voice—calm and devoid of emotion—echoes through the chamber from unseen speakers:

‘CRITICAL CORE FAILURE. AEGIS PROTOCOL OFFLINE. CONTAINMENT FIELD COLLAPSED. INITIATING FACILITY-WIDE DEEP LOCK-DOWN. ALL SECTORS SEALED. MAY THE SOVEREIGNS HAVE MERCY ON YOUR SOULS.’

You hear a series of immense, deafening THUDS echoing from the direction you came, the sound of massive blast doors sealing shut. The red warning lights above the antechamber door blink twice, then go dark. You are trapped.”

    • Scouts and Rock show up, the way back is closed.
      • “We saw the lock-down protocols activate on a terminal before the power died. The main transit systems are all sealed. There’s no getting out the way you came in. But… the Creation Forge, below this level, it’s on a separate, self-contained power source. The old schematics showed emergency service tunnels leading from the forge level to the surface. It’s a long shot, but it’s our only way out now.”
  4. The Vision of Tira Miron

(Read this slowly, with a somber but rising tone)

“As you drift into a fitful, uneasy rest, the cold, sterile hum of the Cannith facility fades away. You find yourselves not in a shared dream, but in a shared, desolate space within your own minds. You stand together in a featureless grey void, the very essence of the Mournland’s despair. The crushing weight of your failure and Lira’s mocking laughter echo around you, threatening to extinguish the last embers of your hope. You feel utterly, terribly alone.

Then, a single, defiant point of silver light appears in the oppressive gloom. It does not banish the grey, but it gives your spirit a focal point. The light grows, not with a blinding flash, but with the gentle, persistent warmth of a hearth fire on a cold night.

The light coalesces into the serene, powerful form of a woman in ancient, silvered plate armor. Though you have only seen her in statues, you recognize her instantly: Tira Miron, the Argent Saint. Her expression is not one of pity, but of a deep, sorrowful empathy—the look of one who has also known great sacrifice and betrayal.

Her voice does not enter your ears, but resonates within your souls, a feeling of immense compassion, unwavering resolve, and burning, righteous fury.

‘The Shadow you faced is the same I bound. It preys on doubt and turns loyalty to ash. You were used. You were broken. But you are not lost.’

A spectral image of the Heart of Radiance appears before you, now whole but pulsating with a sickly, corrupted light in Lira’s hands.

‘They seek to corrupt the Heart, to turn its light into a weapon of despair and twist my binding into a key for their master. But a single spark of the true Flame is enough to start a fire. You carry that spark.’

The vision of the corrupted Heart vanishes. Tira Miron raises a hand, and the silver light intensifies, washing over you. It feels like a cleansing fire, burning away your fatigue, your despair, and your Mournland Weariness. It is a feeling of absolute restoration.

‘You have been tested. You have been forged in sorrow. Now, you shall be armed by the Flame itself. This gift is shaped by your spirit, a reflection of the hero you are destined to be.’

The light sinks into each of you, a profound power seeking a vessel.”

(This is the moment you present the players with the full, re-themed list of 12 Epic Boons.) DM to Players: “Take a moment. Read through these gifts of the Silver Flame, and choose the one that resonates most with your character’s soul.”

(Once each player has made their choice, you can give a final, personal descriptive flourish as they “receive” it in the vision.)

For example: “Toriman, as you choose the Boon of the Purging Flame, the light coalesces around your new sword, which flares with silver fire. Elrath, as you choose the Boon of the Martyr's Endurance, the light sinks into your very being, and you feel an unshakeable, divine resilience settle into your soul.”

(Conclude the vision): “As the power settles within you, Tira Miron gives a single, solemn nod.

‘Be my vengeance. Be my shield. Be the Flame against the Shadow.’

The vision fades, not into darkness, but into a gentle, warm light. You awaken on the cold floor of the Decontamination Chamber. The despair is gone, replaced by a cold, righteous fury and an unbreakable resolve. You feel fully rested, your wounds mended, your spirit reforged. And you can feel it—a new, incredible power humming within you, ready to be unleashed.”
