  • Continue Combat in Vathirond
    • Post combat information
      • The Decimated Guard:
        • If any City Guards survive the fight alongside the party, or arrive shortly after, they’ll be grim and exhausted.
        • Guard Sergeant: “Seven hells… another wave. Thanks for the help, strangers. We… we don’t have the numbers we used to. Every attack like this, we lose more. People say the King’s forgotten us, but truth is, there’s just too much bleeding out of that cursed land now.” He might mention that the attacks have been escalating from lone monstrosities a year ago to organized packs like this in recent months.
      • Terrified Civilians:
        • A few might emerge from hiding places (cellars, boarded-up shops).
        • Old Woman: “It’s the mists! The Dead-Gray, it’s… it’s creeping closer, I swear it! Used to be you only saw it on the horizon. Now, some nights, it rolls right into the eastern wards. And they come with it.”
        • Young Parent clutching a child: “We’re leaving. Most who could have already gone. Vathirond is a dying town. It’s not safe. Not anymore. It feels like the Mourning never truly ended for us here.”
      • Weary Innkeeper (if they seek refuge/information there):
        • “Aye, the attacks are worse. Almost nightly now, though this big a push… that’s new. Used to be just after dark, now you hear screams even mid-day sometimes if the fog rolls in thick.”
        • “Some say something in the Mournland is stirring them up, pushing them out. Like poking a nest of scorpions. The Dead-Gray Mist itself feels… angrier, somehow. Thicker. Like it’s trying to swallow Vathirond whole.”
  • Gather intel
    • Sergeant Kytra Roric (scarred Brelish Border Guard veteran)
      • “So, you’re set on pushing east from here, eh? Most try the old King’s Road towards Kalazart. Don’t. That place is a nest of Cyran ghosts still fighting their last battle, swarming undead, and I’ve heard tales of a colossal insectoid horror that’s made its lair in the ruins. You won’t come back.” She takes a swig of ale (or just spits). “If you’re trying to get towards the region of Making, your best bet is to strike south-southeast as soon as you’re deep in the mists. It’s a hard trek through what we call the Ash Wastes – bleak, featureless. But word from the few scavengers who’ve risked that route is that eventually, you’ll come across a place they call the ‘Silent Village’ or sometimes ‘Casalon’s Echo’ – supposedly what’s left of the town of Casalon. They say it’s… queer. Some find shelter there, some just find more sorrow. It’s on one of the old, lesser paths that eventually wind towards the Glass Plateau. If you see it, tread carefully; the Mourning didn’t just kill places, it broke them in strange ways.”
