Shadows of a Radiant Heart - Epilogue

Prompt to players

Twelve months have passed since you walked out of the Khyber breach. You returned to a Khorvaire that had moved eight days without you—a “Gap” that still feels like a missing heartbeat in your memories. You saved a city that never knew it needed saving. Beyond Jaela and the highest sanctums of the Church, you are not the ‘Saviours of Flamekeep.’ You are simply people who were gone, and then came back.

Jaela and her loyalists have been hard at work rooting out the corruption within the Church’s ranks. But as with any organization of mortals, the shadows are stubborn. For every hypocrite removed, a new power struggle begins. The Flame is purer now, but the humans tending it are as flawed as ever.

Across the continent, the news of House Cannith and the Mourning has changed everything. Silas’s revelations shook the Dragonmarked Houses to their core. Public opinion is a bruised and angry thing, but in the wake of the scandal, a new purpose has emerged. Cannith, alongside the Arcane Congress, has begun the impossible: research into reversing the Mourning. It is slow, grueling work, but for the first time in five years, there is a flicker of hope that Cyre might one day breathe again.

And then there is you. You walked away from the Heart of Radiance, but you didn’t walk away the same. Saturday will mark the One-Year Anniversary of your return from the dark.

To help you prepare your epilogue for Saturday, consider these questions:

  • The Unsung Hero: How does it feel to walk past a cathedral you saved and see people praying to a Flame they don’t know you preserved? Have you embraced the anonymity, or does it still burn a little?
  • The Story: What have you been doing for the past year? Did you stay in the shadows of Flamekeep, or did you go your own way?
  • The Meeting: Are you meeting up with the others to mark this anniversary? If so, where and why? Or are we seeing you alone, one year later, in a place the others have never been?
  • The Internal Shift (For Elrath): The fire that defined you has been quenched. For a lifetime, you only knew the chaos of battle and the heat of the rage—and though you always longed for peace, you now have to live in it. What do your hands do now that they no longer reach for a weapon? When the world gets quiet, how have you dealt with the silence where your internal flame used to burn? Are you the person you hoped you’d be?

“Meta” Details

  • Creative Freedom: These questions are just a guide. This is your time to define your character’s final chapter. If you want to run something by me, just send me a message and I’ll do my best to assist!
  • The Floor is Yours: I’m planning for everyone to have roughly 10–15 minutes to share their journey.
  • The “Lost Files”: If there are secrets, backstories, or character beats that never made it to the “screen” during our 81 sessions (like what Jonathan mentioned about Vesryn and Toriman), this is the perfect time to share them with the group. Let’s see the full picture of the Flamebound!
